How Facebook Dating works
Dating gives you a second profile, kept separate from your main timeline, where you can be matched with other people who also use Dating. Your friends are not suggested to you by default, and only people with a Dating profile can see yours. Setup and matching are free.
How to start Facebook Dating
- Open the Facebook app and log in with your normal account.
- Tap Menu — three lines (top-right, Android) or your profile picture (bottom-right, iPhone).
- Tap See more, then Dating (the red-and-purple heart).
- Confirm your details, allow location, add photos and prompts, set your match preferences, and save.
If Dating is not in your menu, you are likely outside a supported country, under 18, on a Page or professional-mode profile, or on the desktop site, which has no Dating. Our fix guide covers each cause.
Is Facebook Dating available in my country?
As of July 2026, Dating runs in 50-plus countries — the US, Canada, most of Europe, and parts of South America and Southeast Asia — but not across most of Africa, the Middle East, or South Asia. The reliable test is whether the Dating shortcut shows in your own app. Facebook lists current eligibility on its Who can use Facebook Dating page.
Staying safe on Facebook Dating
Treat matches like any online stranger. Keep chats inside the app until you trust the person, never send money or gift cards, and meet in public the first few times. Use the report and block tools on any profile that pressures you or asks for cash.
