What to Know
- The in-chat Reminder button in Messenger has been removed for most users. If you have it, tap + in a chat and look for the bell.
- The reliable way to remind a group now is a Facebook Event, which sends everyone a notification at the set time.
- To review reminders and events you’ve set, open Menu ☰ > Events.
This applies to the Facebook and Messenger apps on Android and iPhone as of July 2026.
Can You Still Set a Reminder in Messenger?
For a while, Messenger let you set a reminder inside a group chat with the + button and a bell icon. Facebook has since removed it for most people, so on current app versions the button often isn’t there. A small number of users on older versions or certain regions may still see it.
If you do see it, here is Facebook’s documented flow:
- Open the group chat in Messenger.
- Tap the + beside the message box.
- Tap the Reminder option (a bell icon).
- Enter a title, date, and time, then tap Create.
Everyone in the chat gets a notification when the reminder is due.
Use a Facebook Event Instead
Events do the same job and work for everyone, on phone and desktop. They notify invited people and let anyone RSVP.
- Tap Menu ☰ > Events (or find Events in the left menu on desktop).
- Tap Create and choose Private, Public, or a group event.
- Enter the name, date, time, and place.
- Tap Create, then invite the people you want.
How to See Your Events and Reminders
- Open Menu ☰ in the Facebook app.
- Tap Events.
- Browse Upcoming and Past to find anything you’ve set, then tap one to edit or delete it.
FAQ
Why is the reminder feature missing from Messenger?
Facebook removed the in-chat reminder for most users. Update the app to be sure you’re on the latest version, but if it’s still gone, use a Facebook Event instead.
Can I set a reminder on desktop Messenger?
No. The chat reminder was mobile-only, and it’s largely gone now. Create an Event on desktop to notify a group.
Will a Facebook Event notify everyone?
Yes. Invited people get a notification, and Facebook sends a reminder as the start time nears.
