Tshopo is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 new provinces created after the 2015 repartitioning.
It is located in the north central region of the country, on the Tshopo River, after which it is named.
The old Orientale province was divided into four provinces: Tshopo, Bas-Uele, Haut-Uele, and Ituri.
Tshopo was formed by combining the Tshopo district and the separately managed city of Kisangani, which maintained its position as the provincial capital.
The 2020 population is expected to be 2,829,700.

The provincial capital is the city of Kisangani. Territories are:

- Isangi
