Tanganyika Province

Tanganyika (Jimbo la Tanganyika in Swahili) is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 new provinces established by the 2015 repartitioning.

Tanganyika, Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, and Lualaba provinces are the result of the division of the old Katanga province.

Tanganyika was founded from the Tanganyika district, with Kalemie serving as the new province’s main city.

The geography of the new province corresponds to that of the historic Nord-Katanga province, which existed from 1962 and 1966 in the early post-colonial Democratic Republic of the Congo.
