Lomami is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 new provinces created after the 2015 repartitioning.
Lomami, Kasaï-Oriental, and Sankuru provinces were formed from the fragmentation of the previous Kasaï-Oriental province.
Lomami was founded by combining the Kabinda district with the city of Mwene-Ditu, which was managed autonomously. Kabinda was designated as the new province’s capital.
