Lualaba Province

Lualaba Province (Jimbo la Lualaba in Swahili) is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 provinces established in the 2015 repartitioning.

The old Katanga province was divided into four provinces: Lualaba, Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, and Tanganyika.

Lualaba was formed by combining the Lualaba and Kolwezi districts. Kolwezi was a hybrid city/district that was divided from its two areas, with the city proper serving as the capital of the new province. The 2020 population is expected to be 3,183,300.

Lualaba, like Haut-Katanga, is located in Central Africa’s Copperbelt region. The DRC is second only to Chile, Peru, and the People’s Republic of China in terms of global copper production.
