Kasaï-Central

In 2015, the Democratic Republic of the Congo created 21 new provinces, including Kasaï-Central.

Kasaï-Central and Kasaï provinces emerged from the fragmentation of the previous Kasaï-Occidental province.

Kasaï-Central was founded from the Lulua district and the independently administered city of Kananga, which maintained its status as the provincial capital. The 2020 population is expected to be 4,045,300.

The territory of the new province corresponds to the ancient Luluabourg Province, which existed from 1963 and 1966, shortly after independence.
