Geography
Frances Baard sits on the Ghaap Plateau where the Vaal and Harts rivers cross Northern Cape’s grassland interior, roughly 480 km southwest of Johannesburg. It borders Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District to the north, Pixley ka Seme District to the south, and shares boundaries with North West and Free State provinces to the east. The district is compact by Northern Cape standards, and all four of its towns lie within about 100 km of Kimberley, making it the most road-connected part of the province.
