It’s named after William Cocke Young, a soldier and early settler in Texas.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 931 square miles (2,410 km2), of which 914 square miles (2,370 km2) are land and 16 square miles (41 km2) (1.8%) are water.
