As of the census in 2020, there were 40,531 people living there.
Warsaw is the county seat.The name comes from a Lenape word from Delaware that means “broad bottom lands.” In 1841, Genesee County split to make Wyoming County.
The county has a total area of 596 square miles (1,540 km2), of which 593 square miles (1,540 km2) are land and 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2) (0.6%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
