The county was made in 1851 and put together in 1853.
It was named for the Waupaca River, whose name in the Menominee language means “tomorrow river,” “white sand bottom,” or “pale water.”
The land area of the county is 765 square miles (1,980 km2), which is made up of 748 square miles (1,940 km2) of land and 17 square miles (44 km2), or 2.3%, of water.
The Waupaca Chain O’ Lakes is made up of 22 lakes in the water.
Most of these lakes get their water from springs, and the Crystal River exit connects them.
Party Ridge Lake is in Waupaca County.
It is on the Wolf River and the Waupaca River.
