Washington County is a county in the Panhandle region of the United States’ state of Florida.
The population was 25,318 at the time of the 2020 census.
Chipley is its county seat.
Washington County was established in 1825 and was roughly double the area of Delaware, spanning all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
Washington County was previously a dry county, which meant that the sale of alcoholic beverages was prohibited.
Following a public referendum in which around two-thirds of voters backed the removal, this ban was lifted in January 2022.
The county has a total area of 616 square miles (1,600 km2), of which 583 square miles (1,510 km2) is land and 33 square miles (85 km2) (5.4%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
