The US Census Bureau says that the county covers a total area of 407 square miles (1,050 km2), of which 401 square miles (1,040 km2) are land and 6.0 square miles (16 km2) (1.5% of the total area) are water.
The county is roughly in the shape of a square, with sides that are about 20 miles (32 km) long.
