On January 5, 1833, the county was established and named after General Joseph Warren, who died in the Battle of Bunker Hill during the American Revolutionary War.
Warren County is included in the St. Louis, MO-IL Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 438 square miles (1,130 km2), of which 429 square miles (1,110 km2) is land and 9.2 square miles (24 km2) (2.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
