Martin Van Buren, President of the United States at the time of the county’s formation, was named after the county on November 11, 1833.
Van Buren County was dry until November 3, 2020, when county residents voted to make it wet.
Van Buren County is not to be confused with the city of Van Buren, which is about 100 miles to the west in Crawford County, just north of Fort Smith.
