Upton County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas located on the Edwards Plateau.
It had a population of 3,308 people as of the 2020 census.
Rankin is the county seat.
The county was established in 1887 and reorganised in 1910.
It is named for two brothers, John C. and William F. Upton, both Confederate Army colonels.
The county has a total area of 1,242 square miles (3,220 km2), of which 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) (0.01%) is covered by water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
Much of the county is underlain by the Spraberry Trend, the third-largest oil field in the United States by remaining reserves.
Upton County is home to Bobcat Hills, a summit with an elevation of 2,697 feet (822 metres).
