It is located in East Texas, and its county seat is Woodville.
Its population was 19,798 as of the 2020 census.
Tyler County is named after John Tyler, the United States’ tenth President.
Tyler County, despite its name, does not include Tyler, Texas; the latter is located roughly 140 miles to the north in Smith County.
The county has a total area of 936 square miles (2,420 km2), of which 925 square miles (2,400 km2) are land and 11 square miles (28 km2) (1.2%) are covered by water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
