Tippah County is a county in the U.S. state of Mississippi.
It is on the northern edge of the state.
As of the census in 2020, there were 21,815 people living there.
Ripley is the county seat.
“Tippah” is a name that comes from a Chickasaw word that means “cut off.”
It got its name from a creek that runs from northeast to southwest through most of the original county before emptying into the Tallahatchie River.
The county has a total area of 460 square miles (1,200 km2), of which 458 square miles (1,190 km2) are land and 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2) (0.5%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
