Scott County is a county in the southwestern part of the state of Virginia in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 21,576 people living there.
Gate City is the county seat.
Scott County was made on November 24, 1814, from parts of Washington, Lee, and Russell Counties. It was named for General Winfield Scott, who was born in Virginia.
Scott County is in the Kingsport–Bristol–Bristol, TN-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is part of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area, also called the “Tri-Cities” area.
Freda Russell Starnes is in charge of running the county.
The county has a total area of 539 square miles (1,400 km2), of which 536 square miles (1,390 km2) are land and 3.1 square miles (8.0 km2) (0.6%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
