It is pronounced SAN j-SIN-toh. As of the census in 2020, there were 27,402 people living there.
Coldspring is the county seat.
The Battle of San Jacinto, which happened in 1836, was where Texas won its freedom from Mexico and became a republic.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 628 square miles (1,630 km2), of which 569 square miles (1,470 km2) are land and 59 square miles (150 km2) (9.3%) are water.
