Benton is the county seat and biggest city. Saline County was made on November 2, 1835.
It was named for the salt water (brine) springs in the area, even though the word “saline” is pronounced differently.
Before November 2014, it was a dry county, which means that alcohol was not allowed.
Central Arkansas has Saline County as part of it.
The county has a total area of 730 square miles (1,900 km2), of which 724 square miles (1,880 km2) are land and 6.9 square miles (18 km2) (0.9%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
