St. Charles County is in the middle of the state of Missouri’s eastern part.
As of the 2020 census, there were 405,262 people living there.
This made it the third most populous county in Missouri. St.
Charles is the county seat.
The county was made on October 1, 1812, and was named for an Italian cardinal named Saint Charles Borromeo.
St. Charles County is part of the St. Louis, MO-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area and has many of the city’s northwest suburbs. St. Charles County is the most wealthy county in Missouri and one of the fastest-growing counties in the country.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county covers 593 square miles (1,540 km2), 560 square miles (1,500 km2) of which are land and 32 square miles (83 km2) of which are water, or 5.4%.
