St. Bernard Parish is a parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
It is called Paroisse de Saint-Bernard in French and Parroquia de San Bernardo in Spanish.
Chalmette is the parish seat and the largest town in the area. In 1807, the parish was made.
The New Orleans–Metairie metropolitan statistical area includes St. Bernard Parish.
The parish is southeast of the city of New Orleans and includes the Chandeleur Islands and Chandeleur Sound to the east.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the parish covers 2,158 square miles (5,590 km2), 378 square miles (980 km2) of which are land and 1,781 square miles (4,610 km2) of which are water, or 83%.
It is the second largest parish in Louisiana in terms of total land area, and it has the most water of any parish.
