Ripley County is located in the southeastern region of the United States state of Indiana.

Ripley County was established by the same legislative act that established Jennings County on December 27, 1816.

It was named for Gen. Eleazer Wheelock Ripley, a War of 1812 officer who took part in the Battle of Lundy’s Lane and the Siege of Fort Erie in 1814.
