As of the census in 2020, there were 6,096 people living there.

Centerville is the county seat.

The county was officially set up on February 25, 1845. It was named after Thomas Reynolds, who had been governor of Missouri.

Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, a popular place for tourists to visit in the state of Missouri, is in this county.

The county has a total area of 814 square miles (2,110 km2), of which 808 square miles (2,090 km2) are land and 5.9 square miles (15 km2) (0.7%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
