The population was 65,034 at the time of the 2020 census.Somerset is the county seat.

The county was named after Polish patriot Count Casimir Pulaski and was formed in December 1798 from land donated by Lincoln and Green Counties.

The Somerset, KY Micropolitan Statistical Area includes Pulaski County.

Somerset has a population of slightly more than 11,000 people, but the Somerset/Pulaski County Micropolitan Area has a population of more than 65,000 people.

The county has a total area of 677 square miles (1,750 km2), of which 658 square miles (1,700 km2) is land and 19 square miles (49 km2) (2.8%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.

It is Kentucky’s third-largest county in terms of land area.
