Hawkinsville is the county seat.
Pulaski County was formed on December 13, 1808, by an act of the Georgia State Legislature from a section of Laurens County.
It was established for cotton farming during the antebellum period and is part of Georgia’s Black Belt, an arc of exceptionally rich soil.
The county has a total area of 251 square miles (650 km2), of which 249 square miles (640 km2) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2) (0.9%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
