Pontotoc County is a county in the state of Mississippi in the United States.

As of the census in 2020, there were 31,184 people living there.

Pontotoc is the county seat.

It was made on February 9, 1836, from land that the Chickasaw people gave to the U.S. as part of the Chickasaw Cession.

“Land of hanging grapes” is what Pontotoc means in Chickasaw.

The original Natchez Trace and the current Natchez Trace Parkway both go through the southeast corner of Pontotoc County.

The Tupelo, MS Micropolitan Statistical Area includes Pontotoc County.

The county has a total area of 501 square miles (1,300 km2), of which 498 square miles (1,290 km2) are land and 3.3 square miles (8.5 km2) (0.7%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
