The federally recognised tribe’s Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation is in Polk County, where the people have lived since the early nineteenth century.
The federal government forcibly removed them from their ancestral area in the Southeast.
According to the 2000 census, there were 480 people living on the reservation. The tribe has 1100 registered members.
