Paulding is the county seat.
The county was made in 1820, and in 1839, it was put together.
It is named after John Paulding, who was one of the people who took Major John André prisoner during the American Revolutionary War.
The county has a total area of 419 square miles (1,090 km2), of which 416 square miles (1,080 km2) are land and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2) (0.6%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
