Osage County is the largest county in Oklahoma in terms of land area.
When Oklahoma became a state in 1907, the county was named after the Osage Nation, which lives there. The Osage Nation is recognized by the federal government.
The county is the same size as the Osage Nation Reservation, which was set up by a treaty when the Osage moved there from Kansas in the 1800s.
Pawhuska is one of the first three towns to be built in the county. It is also the county seat. As of 2020, there were 45,818 people living in the county.
The county has a total area of 2,304 square miles (5,970 km2), of which 2,246 square miles (5,820 km2) are land and 58 square miles (150 km2) (2.5%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
