Because of its location and the fact that Westphalia Vineyards was started there, it is connected to the Missouri Rhineland, which runs along the Missouri River valley to the western edges of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area.
The 2010 census shows that 98.85% of the people who live in Osage County are white, making it the whitest county in Missouri.
The county has a total area of 610 square miles (1,600 km2), of which 604 square miles (1,560 km2) are land and 6.1 square miles (16 km2) (1%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
