On December 15, 1823, parts of Henry County, Jefferson County, and Shelby County were moved to make Oldham County.
It was the 74th county in Kentucky and was named after a Revolutionary War officer from Jefferson County, Col. William Oldham.
The US Census Bureau says that the county covers a total area of 196 square miles (510 km2), of which 187 square miles (480 km2) are land and 9.2 square miles (24 km2) (4.7%) are water.
It is Kentucky’s 13th smallest county. The Ohio River is what separates the northern part of the county from Indiana.
