Nicholas County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States.

As of the census in 2020, there were 7,537 people living there. Carlisle, which is also the only city in the county, is the county seat and the only city in the county.

The county was started in 1799 and is named after Col. George Nicholas, who is known as the “Father of the Kentucky Constitution.”

The county covers a total area of 197 square miles (510 km2), of which 195 square miles (510 km2) are land and 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2) (0.8%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
