The county is named after Jackson L. Morrow, who was one of the first people to live there and a member of the state legislature when the county was made.
The Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility Boardman and half of the Umatilla Chemical Depot, which includes the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, are both in the county.
Morrow County is part of the Micropolitan Statistical Area of Pendleton-Hermiston, OR. It is south of the Columbia River and is one of the eight counties that make up “Eastern Oregon.”
The US Census Bureau says that the county covers 2,049 square miles (5,310 km2), of which 2,032 square miles (5,260 km2) are land and 17 square miles (44 km2) (0.8%) are water.
