Missaukee County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan.

It is pronounced [mih-SAW-kee].

As of the 2020 Census, there were 15,052 people living there.

Lake City is the county seat.

The Cadillac, MI Micropolitan Statistical Area includes Missaukee County. People think of the county as being in Northern Michigan.

Mackinac County and Missaukee County were split up on April 1, 1840, because the number of people was expected to grow. Legally, the county became a part of Grand Traverse County in 1851.

After that, it was added to Manistee County in 1855 and Wexford County in 1869. In 1871, it became its own county.

The county has a total area of 574 square miles (1,490 km2), of which 565 square miles (1,460 km2) are land and 9.1 square miles (24 km2) (1.6%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau
