Menominee County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan.

It is in the Upper Peninsula.

As of the 2020 Census, there were 23,502 people living there.

Menominee is the county seat.

The name of the county comes from an American Indian word that means “wild rice eater” and was used to describe a tribe.

The county was made in 1861 from parts of Delta County that were split off. It was called Bleeker at the time.

The name was changed to Menominee in 1863, when the county government was set up.

The Marinette, WI–MI Micropolitan Statistical Area includes Menominee County.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 1,338 square miles (3,470 km2), of which 1,044 square miles (2,700 km2) are land and 294 square miles (760 km2) are water, or 22%.
