Its name is MEGZ.

As of the census in 2020, there were 22,210 people living there.

Pomeroy is the county seat.

The county is named after Ohio’s fourth governor, Return J. Meigs Jr.

The county has a total area of 433 square miles (1,120 km2), of which 430 square miles (1,100 km2) are land and 2.9 square miles (7.5 km2) (0.7%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The county is bordered on the east and south by the Ohio River. The other side of the river is in West Virginia.
