Meade County is a county in South Dakota, a state in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 29,852 people living there.
Sturgis is the county seat.
The county was made in 1889 and named after Fort Meade, a military post in the area from 1878 to 1889 that was named for General George Meade.
The Rapid City Metropolitan Statistical Area includes Meade County.
Cherry Creek drains the upper part of Meade County. Along the southeast edge of the county, the Cheyenne River flows northeast.
In the west and southwest of the county, there are mountain ridges.
The rest of the county is made up of semi-arid rolling hills, some of which are used for farming.
The land in the county slopes to the east and northeast. Flagstaff Mountain, which is 5,421 ft (1,652 m) high, is near the southwest corner.
The county is 3,483 square miles (9,020 square kilometers) big, with 3,471 square miles (8,990 square kilometers) of land and 12 square miles (31 square kilometers) of water, or 0.3%.
It has the most land area of any county in South Dakota.
