Brady is the county seat.

The county was made in 1856, and in 1876, it was put together.

It is named after a famous Texas Ranger and Confederate general called Benjamin McCulloch.

In McCulloch County, near Brady, is the physical centre of Texas.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 1,073 square miles (2,780 km2), of which 1,066 square miles (2,760 km2) are land and 7.8 square miles (20 km2) (0.7%) are water.
