Mason County is a county in the state of Washington, United States.
The population was 65,726 at the time of the 2020 census.
Shelton is the county seat and the only incorporated city.
On March 13, 1854, the county was created from Thurston County.
Originally known as Sawamish County, it was renamed Mason County in 1864 to honor Charles H. Mason, the first Secretary of Washington Territory.
Mason County is part of the Shelton, Washington Micropolitan Statistical Area and the Seattle-Tacoma, Washington Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 1,051 square miles (2,720 km2), of which 959 square miles (2,480 km2) is land and 92 square miles (240 km2) (8.7%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
