Marion County is located in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, USA. Francis Marion, the famous “Swamp Fox” of the Revolutionary War, inspired the county’s name.

Marion County, Arkansas’s 35th county, was established in 1836 and is home to one incorporated town and four incorporated cities, including the county seat, Yellville.

There are also numerous unincorporated communities and ghost towns in the county.

The county included a portion of what is now Searcy County, Arkansas, and many people were opposed to dividing it, which fueled the bloody Tutt-Everett War between 1844 and 1850.

The county’s population was 16,826 as of the 2020 Census, occupying 640 square miles (170,000 ha).

The county ranks 42nd out of 75 in Arkansas in terms of population.
