Luce County is a county in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States.
The population was 5,339 as of the 2020 Census, making it the second-least populous county in Michigan (behind Keweenaw County).
Newberry, Luce County’s only incorporated community, serves as the county seat.
The county was established and named after former Michigan Governor Cyrus G. Luce in 1887.
The state legislature designated Newberry as Michigan’s moose capital in 2002.
The county has a total area of 1,912 square miles (4,950 km2), of which 899 square miles (2,330 km2) is land and 1,013 square miles (2,620 km2) (53%) is water.
Luce County is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
It shares a northern border with Canada, which is formed by Lake Superior.
