The state of Louisiana is divided into 64 counties. Ascension Parish is the oldest (founded in 1807), while Allen Parish is the youngest (established in 1912).
East Baton Rouge Parish is the most populous, with a population of 440,171. Plaquemines Parish (6,291 km2) has the largest land area, while West Baton Rouge Parish has the smallest (526 km2).
