This made it the fourth-least populated county in Idaho. The county seat is in Nezperce, and the biggest city is Kamiah.
Meriwether Lewis County was split off from Nez Perce County in 1911.
It was named after the explorer Meriwether Lewis.
The county has a total area of 480 square miles (1,200 km2), of which 479 square miles (1,240 km2) are land and 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2) (0.2%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
