Lawrence County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States.

As of the census in 2020, there were 16,293 people living there.

Louisa is the county seat.

The county is named after James Lawrence.

Isaac Bolt, who was a Lawrence County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace, helped start the county.

Tyler Childers, a big name in bluegrass and country music, lives in Lawrence County.

It is where former Kentucky Governor Paul E. Patton and the late Chief Justice of the United States, Frederick Moore Vinson, were born.

In terms of selling alcoholic drinks, Lawrence County is a “moist” county, which means that alcohol can only be sold in the city boundaries of Louisa.

In the rest of the county, there are no places that sell booze. To avoid a monopoly, only two shops sell liquor. Most convenience stores sell beer and malted drinks.

Floyd County and Greenup County gave land to make Lawrence County in 1821.

Lawrence County has had four courthouses.

The first one was built in 1823.

The US Census Bureau says that the county covers a total area of 420 square miles (1,100 km2), of which 416 square miles (1,080 km2) are land and 4.5 square miles (12 km2) (1.1% of the total area) are water.
