Lapeer County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States.
As of the 2020 Census, there were 88,619 people in the area.
Lapeer is the county seat.
The county was made on September 18, 1822, and all of its parts were put together on February 2, 1835. It comes from the French word la pierre, which means “the stone.”
Lapeer County is east of Flint and north of Detroit.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county covers 663 square miles (1,720 km2), of which 643 square miles (1,670 km2) are land and 20 square miles (52 km2) are water, or 3.0%.
The geography of Lapeer County is a lot like that of Oakland County, except that Lapeer County is more rural.
Lapeer is one of the five counties that make up The Thumb, which is a part of Mid Michigan. The Thumb is a peninsula that sticks out into Lake Huron.
Columbiaville is where the water for the Flint River starts to flow. It goes through the county and ends up in Genesee. The City of Lapeer is in the middle.
