Lake of the Woods County is located in the northwest corner of the state of Minnesota.
The population was 3,763 as of the 2020 census, making it Minnesota’s second-least populous county. Baudette is its county seat.
The county includes the Northwest Angle, the northernmost point in the Lower 48 States, as well as the United States’ portion of Lake of the Woods, which is shared with Canada.
Elm Point is an exclave within the county.
The county is 1,775 square miles (4,600 km2) in size, with 1,298 square miles (3,360 km2) of land and 477 square miles (1,240 km2) (27%) of water.
