This made it the third-least populated county in Missouri. Edina is the county seat.
The county was made on February 14, 1845.
It was named for General Henry Knox, who was the U.S. Secretary of War at the time.
The county has a total area of 507 square miles (1,310 km2), of which 504 square miles (1,310 km2) are land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) (0.6%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
