Hobart is the county seat.
The county was made in 1901 when Oklahoma Territory was made.
It was named after the people of Kiowa.
The county has a total area of 1,031 square miles (2,670 km2), of which 1,015 square miles (2,630 km2) are land and 15 square miles (39 km2) (1.5%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Most of the county is flat, but the Washita Mountains run along the southern edge.
